About Celia

I love Wellington – its busy centre, diverse suburbs, wild coast and forest reserves. I work hard for the Southern Ward and city as a whole in the areas of road safety, energy conservation, revegetation and active transport.

I want to make sure infill housing doesn’t destroy the character of suburbs and also to ensure the city doesn’t sprawl. Wellington City Council has begun to be more considerate about differences across the city but we need to do better! As well as public housing, we need affordable housing for people to rent and buy or first-time buyers will be forced to live elsewhere.

I’m passionate about making Wellington easier, safer and more pleasant to walk in. If more of us walk to school, to work, to the bus or to the shops, we’ll be healthier and happier – and so will the city and planet! I succeeded in getting an increase in budget for tracks development and enjoy working with volunteers replanting Wellington’s hills and coast.

I’ve lived in Island Bay since 1983. I’m married, with two teenage sons. I enjoy walking, kayaking, reading, gardening and cooking as well as robust discussion and debate! Before joining Council, I’ve been a teacher and programmer and run a small computer consultancy. Most days I cycle to work.

Call or email me to discuss YOUR issues in Wellington. I’m interested in small local matters AND big global issues so do get in touch with good ideas, complaints or suggestions for improving how Council works with residents and businesses.
